Evolution – The Video Game [Kickstarter Campaign]

It has been a banner year for the digital adaptation of physical board games. If you know me, you know I really enjoy them. Being able to play some of the more complex or large board games on my phone and/or tablet and not worrying about clean up or doing the math is great. 🙂

I just found out that NorthStar Games has brought their board game Evolution to Kickstarter. If you read over the page and watch the attached video, you will see that the game is just about done. If you back the Kickstarter you will get the game (beta) in your hands next month (Oct 2017). From what I have seen, it looks really polished and fun.  Yes I have already backed this campaign!

So what is Evolution all about?

“In Evolution, players adapt their species in a dynamic ecosystem where food is scarce and predators lurk. Traits like Hard Shell and Horns will protect your species from Carnivores, while a Long Neck will help them get food that others cannot reach. With over 4,000 ways to evolve your species, every game becomes a different adventure.  Evolution packs a surprising amount of variety for a game with simple rules. The variety comes from the synergies between the trait cards and from the different personalities at the table.” (Board Game Geek)

I have not yet played the board game but hopefully I will be able to within a month. If you are looking for a beautifully designed game with tons of replayability, then I think you should check out this Kickstarter Campaign.  (Thanks from a fellow backer).

Back this campaign today: Kickstarter Page

Here is a nicely done video of the game from AppAddict.net

Operate Now: Hospital Season 2 (New Game and Giveaway)

Today a new game is on the Play Store: Operate Now: Hospital Season 2 from Spilgames.

For those who are unfamiliar, Operate Now is a drama inspired medical journey, where you experience being a surgeon, building a medical team, and managing a hospital.

Your objective is to assemble a highly skilled medical team to perform operations on patients and to put your medical facility at the number one spot in the world. Scrubs and gloves at the ready!

So on to season 2….Chief of Surgery Noah Stone is becoming irritable and aloof. He’s being threatened with blackmail, but will he succumb? Nurse Amy has spiraled into depression after her accident and has started stealing hospital drugs. Is there anyone who can help her? Paramedic James finds himself fighting with surgeon Sirona. Will the passion in those fights turn into something else altogether? Sirona has her own issues. One struggle dies with her alcoholic dad but then she discovers she has a brother. Will he be as messed up as her father?

It’s just like your favorite TV hospital drama, but it’s you who’s calling the shots:

  • Manage and optimize hospital resources and staff to create a world-class medical institution
  • Deal with the human drama that goes hand-in-hand with running a hospital
  • Perform complex surgeries

To celebrate the arrival of this new game,  Spilgame has given me 1 prize pack consisting of 1 doctor tote bag, 1 pair of hospital socks, and 1 pack of organ gummy candies to give away.  To enter, simply fill out the Rafflecopter form below.

Two New PVP Games to Try Out

Well last week, we saw two new PVP games come out that might be worth your time.

If you enjoy Clash Royale and want to try a similar game, then you should take a look at Gameloft’s Blitz Brigade: Rival Tactics. This is a free to play game with IAPs and some ads. Now the ads are not bad; you can watch extra ads to earn gems too.

Just like Clash Royale, you will fight against other players online with a 8 man squad you create. As you earn victories and upgrade your troops, you will progress to new arenas to fight in. You can join factions and send and receive gifts.

The graphics and gameplay are good. Since it is new, there are not as many players online, so you might have to wait to find an opponent. To do well in the game, you need to setup a good deck and know how each troop plays. I have found modest success so far but I need to learn the troops better.

The second game is from Rovio,  Battle Bay.  This is a new 5 on 5 multiplayer game. In the game you choose a ship (the Enforcer, the Defender, the Shooter, and the Speeder) and then battle. As you progress in the game, you will be able to upgrade your character’s skills and weapons cannons, torpedoes, and grenades.

You play the game using two hands and then steer and shoot with on screen thumb controllers.  The game appears to be a lot of fun and the graphics are great.  In addition to playing with friends, you can join a Guild too.

If you enjoy MOBA, then Battle Bay looks to be one to try.

Star Trek Timelines- We are the Borg [Update]

Star Trek Timelines from Disruptor Beam, is a fun game that any Trekkie would like. I heard about a new Borg event starting this week, so I decided to download the game and give it a try. This game is different from any other as all of the various Star Treks are merged into one game due to the Augments.

You will assemble a crew and then go on away missions and space battles. The success of your missions depends on the crew you select for the various tasks. Each Star Trek character has different strengths and you will need to use these wisely to complete your missions. YOu can also pick the difficuly settings for each mission.

As you progress you will earn items which can be used to upgrade your characters and their skills. Right now I have Picard, Sulu, Spoke, Torres, Huey, and more. It is free to play but you use IAPs to get more characters or upgrades.

I am enjoying the game play – the graphics, story line, how you create a crew, the amount of stuff to do are all great. So if you enjoy Star Trek, I suggest you give Timelines a shot. FYI- you need to be Level 8 to access in game events.

So what is up this month? Read about it here.

“Players will engage in a month-long excursion to repel the Borg by joining weekly in-game events, participate in Borg-themed Gauntlets and engage in limited-time Distress Calls – all with Borg-themed rewards such as assimilated versions of fan-favorite Star Trek characters and the much-requested Borg Queen from Star Trek: First Contact! An all-new Borg Sphere will also work its way into the game as Process of Assimilation progresses in the coming weeks.”

Advance Weather Warnings and Your Events

Event planning requires that many specific factors come together to produce one successful event. The problem is that many of those factors are out of your control. However, having powerful data can get you back in the driver’s seat, especially when it comes to severe weather. Historical precipitation data and meteorological services can be valuable tools when choosing a date for your event.

Knowing the Likelihood of Rain

If you’re setting the date for an important event, you’ll need to know in advance how likely it is to rain on that day. Historical weather maps give you information about weather patterns for any location. With historical precipitation data, you can see how rainfall has affected a location in the past. That’s a powerful tool to help you predict future weather.

Accurate, Real Time Weather Data

Having meteorologists at your disposal is a definite benefit when it comes to your events. Earth Networks can provide one-time or recurring meteorology support. That means you’re one step ahead of the weather as your event unfolds, so you can make critical decisions before it rains on your parade.

Safety First

Meteorological services can give you an edge in providing safety for guests, especially if your event is taking place in an outdoor venue. Knowing in advance about incoming severe weather such as lighting gives you enough time to clear areas if needed in order to enhance safety and security. This is one less thing to worry about, giving you greater peace of mind.

With so many factors outside of your control during your event, it’s smart to get as much information as possible for the things you can prepare for. Weather is one of those factors. With Earth Networks meteorological services and historical precipitation data, you can make decisions that work together with the particular circumstances of your event. Accurate forecasts and real time data combined with past trends are all important pieces of information that allow you to plan for success.
