Earthcore: Shattered Elements closed beta test registration now open

Independent mobile game developer Tequila Games today announced that it has opened beta testing registration for its forthcoming digital collectible card game Earthcore: Shattered Elements. The title will be released in Q1 2015 on iOS for iPad & iPhone. The beta test will only give 100 players an exclusive access to the game, but 10 AppReviewCentral readers can get a special invite!

Earthcore: Shattered Elements promises to bring a completely new gameplay experience to the popular digital collectible card game (CCG) genre by introducing several new and unique features including Card Crafting. Card Crafting will give players the ability to fuse card abilities together to create brand new, powerful cards that suit their tactical goals and in-game strategy. With over 500,000 possible card combinations, Earthcore promises to deliver highly competitive duels where the player’s skill and creative thinking are as important as the cards they have in their hand.

Earthcore features card battles based on the 3 element logic like in the rock-paper-scissor game. Each card has up to 3 skills that will change the outcome of the fight if used at the right moment. The more skills a card has the higher its risk value. The game gives players complete freedom to create the cards they want with the Card Crafting tool: the outcome is always predictable and there are 500,000 possible combinations. The single-player campaign is heavily story driven, while the multi-player campaign is based on Elo rankings.

Check out the trailer below and if you want to try an get in, register for the beta at www.earthcoregame.com/beta

Keep up with the project on Facebook   and Twitter.

Ok App Review Central readers-want an invite? Simply tweet about this post and the game using the hashtag #ARCrocks  (get it rocks, earthcore? LOL) and I will pick winners at random. Thanks!

Card Dungeon gets an update

Just got word today that Card Dungeon got a big update. I have not yet tried it with the updates but will need to take a look.

So what is new? Here is what the developer told me:

Quick move: As long as Crusader is not in range of any monsters you can now move much more quickly across the maps to interesting objects on the map. This makes for a much faster gameplay with less downtime between encounters.

Smaller rooms: We have shrunk the max size of the rooms for tighter, faster and tenser gameplay.

Save game: Card Dungeon is now saved at every turn so you can go ahead and answer that call and the game will pick up right where you left off.

Dungeon destruction: After you clear the boss of each level, the dungeons will start to disintegrate so you only have a few more turns to enter the portal. Will you risk it all for a treasure chest across the room or hop into the portal with a broken card?

Fixes:  We have gone through the code with a fine toothed comb and fixed many, many, things. Card Dungeon will now crash less and run faster. I won’t bore you with a list of fixes, but suffice to say it’s better than ever!

Tweaks and balancing: We have gone through all the skills again and made some of the more utility based skills a bit more useful. We have nerfed the big area of effect skills and bumped up the difficulty of some bosses. Many monsters behavior and skills have been tweaked.

For those who want to give it a try, it $3.99 USD

There is silver in the hills – 1849 gets an update

Well  about  ten years after the Gold Rush swept California, silver has just been discovered in the Nevada Mountains. 1849: Nevada Silver is a new expansion pack for the fun city management game 1849 from SomaSim.

1849-nevada2

If you already own the game, you should now see a new IAP for $1.99 USD for the expansion pack.  I reviewed 1849 previously and really enjoyed it. I have not played it in a while so I decided to take this time to crack it open again.  Well I was surprised to see that a Sandbox mode was also recently added to the game. This was something I wanted to see way back when. The Sandbox mode is almost more fun than the story mode since it is wide open and you can play what you want.

The expansion pack adds plenty of new game play. There is a story mode and a sandbox mode for Nevada.

  • Six new cities/scenarios
  • There are trains now and you  will have to work with trains and their schedules for the delivery. The trading system in Nevada is completely redone.
  • New resources and buildings have been added.
  • The last two levels have landmark buildings to construct – the Virginia & Truckee Railroad in Virginia City and the Nevada State Capitol in Carson City.

Slitherine Group acquires Shenandoah Studio

Big news in the gaming world. Both companies have produced fine games, it will be exciting to see what they can do together.

From the press release:

The Slitherine Group announces that it is partnering with Shenandoah Studio to ensure that their innovative titles have the benefit of multi-channel distribution, backed by the development resources needed to achieve their full potential. Shenandoah Studio, the development house behind iPad successes such as Battle of the Bulge and Drive on Moscow, is the winner of many awards. The US-based developer was a breath of fresh air, bringing innovation to the strategy genre on iOS thanks to a clever, streamlined game design and a state-of-the-art game engine.

All Shenandoah’s previously released games will be added to the Slitherine Group’s stores across the web. New projects that were already under development will also be joining the group’s production schedule, with special attention given to Gettysburg: The Tide Turns, a project designed by Eric Lee Smith that was successfully funded on Kickstarter in August last year.

“We are looking forward to working with Eric to bring this game to completion and releasing it as a key part of our future lineup”, said Iain McNeil, Development Director at Slitherine. “Eric’s design vision is a key asset we want to leverage on in order to make sure Gettysburg is the game that all Kickstarter backers were looking for”.
