Guest Locker Smart Security [Android App]

I recently got the chance to give Guest Locker a try on my Galaxy Note 2. The reason I decided to try it was the premise behind the app.

“Guest Locker protects your private and confidential information on your mobile device from guest users without them even knowing they have limited access. Unlike other security apps, there is no rooting required and your guests won’t even realize their access is restricted.”

The app is pretty easy to use. After you download the app, you will setup the admin pin code and the guest pin code. Your next step is to configure the phone to run the app. Now this could be the spot so folks will get lost or decided not to use the app. You will need to make Guest Locker your default messaging app,  lockscreen, and launcher, plus set up the notification mirroring service.  I understand why the app would need to have these permissions but if you any custom launcher or lockscreen you will not be able to use them.

The app is a great tool for those that share their smartphone a lot (with kids or others) or those concerned about phone security.

The app setup and layout is nicely done. I had no problems moving around the app or setting things the way I wanted. The app is currently on sale for its launch, so if this is something you need on your phone, you can get it a very nice price.

Features:

  • Total data control: Control guest access to SMS and MMS messages, phone calls, contacts, photos and specific apps.
  • Privacy: Confidential and personal information remains securely locked away from guests.
  • Ease of use: Type in one password for the admin profile, and one password for a guest profile. No complicated encryption needed!
  • Works with existing apps: Guest Locker seamlessly layers over customized phone settings, so only users know the difference between administrator and guest profiles.

EaseUS E-MobiBackup, backup app for Android [App Review]

App Name: EaseUS E-MobiBackup

Developer: EaseUS Todo Backup

Cost: Free

Google Play: Download

One of the worst things that could happen to a serious gamer is that you lose your progress in a game, either via some crash or your kids decide to start a new game on your phone. Yes that I has happened to me.

One way to protect yourself is to backup your games and their data. Today I am looking at a new app from EaseUS. EaseUS provide backup solutions to PC and servers and have recently gotten into the mobile arena.

With their app, you can easily backup and/or transfer game apps and game progress. The app is free, ad free, and and pretty straightforward.

When you open the app, there are 3 main menus: Game&Data, Game, and Game data. Under the menu, the app will show you each what you currently have for each one of those items.

Before I go any further, a big piece of information. Your phone will need to be rooted to use the Game&Data and Game Data sections.

Ok,so what do you need to do? Simply select the game you want and then hit backup. The app will tell you when it is done. When you are ready to restore an idea, simply select it and hit restore. Really this could not be any easier.

What else can I say? The app does the job and does it well. If you have a rooted phone and need Android backup capabilities to save your game progress, then give this free app a try.

Solo Launcher for Android [App Review]

There are lots of launchers for Android and I have tried quite a few. Some I have  used more than others but to date, I have not found one that I really love. Today I  am trying Solo Launcher from

Now do I have a set of criteria I would want in a launcher? Not really but what I would like to see is a way to easily access the apps I want and has a somewhat minimalist fee and layout. Free would be good too. 🙂

Solo Launcher has most of the features you find in any of the popular launchers currently out. The launcher has its own store, themes, and widgets you can use. One thing I liked about Solo Launcher was that after downloading it and setting it as the default, it was good to go. I really did not have to do a lot of customization to be up and running. Some launchers I have used, it took some time to get it in a place where I was ready to use it.

What are some of features of Solo Launcher:

  • Gestures – you can use 9 different ones and even customize a few to do what you want
  • Themes – the default theme is very nice but you can easily browse and download numerous free ones (Note: I was not able to download). You can also use Go, ADW, NOVA, and Apex themes.
  • Fonts – you can download different fonts to use.
  • Widgets – has some neat widgets, such as the weather widget and Solo Torch
  • Store – the items listed here are linked to the Google Play store
  • Settings – the launcher settings area is nicely organized and put together.

For those that want to simply install and go with it, Solo Launcher does the job.  Now for those that want to wade into the nitty gritty details, Solo Launcher lets  you do that also. You can backup and restore your settings, which might prove  helpful.

You can customize the home screen, dock, folders, app drawer, appearance, and gestures. Lets look at the dock settings. You can turn it on/off, set the icons, their sizes, labels, show dividers, scrolling…you can make it the way you want.

Overall Solo Launcher is a solid launcher for Android phones. It does the job nicely, provides plenty of customization, and is not covered in ads. Did I say it is free? I did not notice any significant changes in my battery life too. If you are looking for a launcher, I would give Solo Launcher a shot.

Launchers are a personal choice, you need to find one that fits you and provides the tools you want.
