Exp3D will change the way you look at and play classic vertical shooters like NAMCO’s Galaga. This indie game has impressive features including automatic shooting capabilities to avoid tiring your fingers with constant button mashing and amazing 3D graphics accompanied with excellent frame rate speeds. Running at 60 fps (frames per second), choppy graphics will be the least of your concerns while playing this game. While the moving backdrop is a nice touch, it could become a distraction during the actual gameplay because of how frequently the enemy ships blend in with the busy, intergalactic city backgrounds. Another cool feature this game has is vibration feedback, which is used similarly like a “rumble pack” for a game controller. Vibration feedback is a feature not often used or seen in mobile games. I’m glad the developers decided to add this option because it enhances the user’s gaming experience through the player feeling the tremors of the ship taking hits from the enemy and exploding when your health meter is depleted. This game will shift from a slow, beginner’s speed to fast-paced madness in a matter of seconds with each group of enemy ships’ unique attack formations and sporadic, shooting patterns. You can defend yourself better with special power-ups within each level and purchase upgrades for your ship with the Orbs you have collected. These power-ups and upgrades will especially come in handy when you encounter the tricky Boss ships at the end of each level.

Here is a quick tip for those of you who download this app: once you have reached the middle of the second stage, a dialogue box will pop-up prompting you that your free preview of the game has ended. Unlike other game demos, Exp3D will let you continue to play the rest of the app for free once you have earned enough Orbs or completely cleared the first level.

This is a good vertical shooter game that is free to download and only takes up 11MB of room on your phone or SD card. You may have to spend extra to purchase more Orbs or to simply unlock the full game itself.
