Today I am looking at a few new apps that you might find helpful.

With mobile smartphones today it is all about convenience. There are so many neat and helpful tools out there to provide small business owners and other professionals the ability to get the job done when away from the office or the main computer. In addition to this blog, I provide numerous web services, such as hosting and web design and the app I am reviewing today, WebDrive from South River Technologies is one that will be a big help.

WebDrive is an Android app that gives users the ability to access, upload, download, and edit files on a variety of servers and protocols:

FTP
Secure FTP
SFTP
WebDAV
Secure WebDAV
Amazon S3
Google Drive

If you are familiar with using any of these then you will not need a lot explanation. I use FTP the most, so this is the one I tried out. To create a new connection, simply pick the server you want and then put in the appropriate information. You can add a layer of security by not saving the password if you want. For FTP, there is a set of advanced options you can configure if needed.

It took me only a couple of minutes to setup my FTP and boom I was in. The app allows you to create folders and move, rename, delete and get info on individual files. Right now the app does not allow for editing of files but I was told this was coming. Another thing, is that I could not find a way to upload files. I assume you can do it, but right now I am not sure how.

The app interface is nicely done and it is very easy to move around within the app. I look forward to see how this app develops over time. If you need an relatively inexpensive app to access your server, WebDrive looks to be a nice option. There is no limit on sites you can add.

If you run a website, you need to keep up with its traffic and using Google Analytics is one of the best ways to do it. When you are at home or the office (and at your computer), it is very easy to head over to the Google website. Well what about when you are out or cannot get to a computer? I have looked at a number of different apps to help me monitor my web site analytics but I must say I was very impressed with Dashboard for Google Analytics from Digital-Analytics.biz. It is my new analytics app for iOS.

This is a free app but if you want, you can upgrade to the pro version which gives you all 20 individual goals. If you are familiar with Google Analytics, then you will not need much of an explanation. After you download the app, simply put your Google login information in and the app will begin to setup your account.

I tested this app on my iPad mini and it looked really good. Have multiple sites? No problem, the app shows them all. The app allows you to configure the layout (somewhat) and what values or views are your defaults. It is very easy to move around the app and find the information you need.

Some of the key aspects of the Dashboard for Google Analytics are:

Real-time dashboard and auto-updating chart
Strong focus on individual goal conversions and targets
Quick down drilling to more than 80 detailed reports and charts

Since this is a free app, you need to download it. I really appreciate the layout of the app and how easy it was to find the information I needed without having to do a lot of clicking or searching in the app. If I had to change anything in the app, I would do two things: create a light theme and I would increase the fone size. (This would help us old guys). I definitely can recommend this iOS for any Google Analytics users out there. Check out this video for more information.
