Are you or a student you know trying to improve their English vocabulary? Are you preparing for a standardized test like the SAT?
Today I am looking at an educational app Memorytrix, which is a free app is available for both Android and iOS devices. Now it needs to be noted that the first module of the app is free. If after trying the app you find it useful, you can unlock more modules with IAPs.
Overall, the app is designed to improve:
- Vocabulary Strength
- Communication Skills
- English Language Proficiency
- Cognitive Skills like Memory, Focus, Speed and Attention.
The app is pretty straight forward and easy to use. It has a very minimalist layout which I appreciate so you can focus on the task at hand, which is learning and solidifying your vocabulary.
When you first start you can create an account or skip it to preview the app. To unlock and fully use the app, you will need an account. The app comes with a nice tutorial to show you where everything is located.
The app is broken down into 5 sections. Right now Vocabtrix is only available but Speaking, Reading, Grammar, and Writing are coming soon.
When using the Vocabtrix section, you can select which exam you are preparing for or just do a general test. Each screen will then show one question, which you can answer or skip. There is no timer on the exam. When you are done, you will get a score and then the app will help customize more based on your results.
When you are reviewing vocabulary words, you can see the work, get an image, see how it is used, and so on.
Now when you are done with a test, you can go to the Performance Section, where you can see your results graphically – Difficulty Level, Communication Skills, and Memorytrix Performance Indicator.
This is a very good app for any student that needs to work on their vocabulary. There are plenty of examples and different types of questions to help the student learn and see how a word is used.
With four more sections coming to the app, Memorytrix looks to be a very good and comprehensive app for learning English vocabulary
