Grapholite is Now Available on iPad (and other platforms)

Business graphics and diagram editors are traditionally one of the most demanded productivity apps. That is why there are tens of such solutions on the App Store. But all these apps are designed for one or rarely for two platforms. If users need to work with the documents on different devices or if they need to collaborate with the colleagues who operate on other mobile platforms the choice becomes much harder. Import and export between different diagram formats inevitably result in errors and corruptions. It´s practically impossible to arrange the two-way exchange of such files between the apps with incompatible formats.

With Grapholite users are able to work with the native app on every platform: iOS, Windows 8, Android and Windows Phone. This is a unique ability to operate graphic documents on different devices in a single format without the need to convert them with the fatal loss of data.

grapholite1

Grapholite is able to create all types of business diagrams such as flow charts, floor plans, network layouts, ui mockups, uml, mind maps, org charts, venn charts, bpmn, web-site structures, technical drawings. The app is equally helpful for students and teachers, enthusiasts and corporate users. The latter will especially appreciate complete support for business process modelling notations including BPMN 1.2 and BPMN 2.0 standards.

With Grapholite users are able to design even the most complex diagrams with a couple of taps. The app provides an extensive library of pre-set stencils which are not just shapes, but smart objects with plenty of properties. An intellectual algorithm of connector layout helps making automatic connections between the diagram elements as neatly as possible.

Get it for iOS, Android, Windows Phone.

Tracking Packages with Parcelle [Android Review]

App Name: Parcelle

Price: Free

Developer: Softbears

Market: Google Play Store

Device used for review: Google Nexus 5

Review:

As someone who is constantly receiving packages from Amazon or other places, I’ve always wanted to have something where I can set up all my package information and named them accordingly. The dream was answered with Parcelle. With Parcelle you are able to do what I’ve just describe and it makes it an easy process.  This app is simple but efficient.

When you open the app, you are greeted with an add Parcel button when you tap it you get the options to add tracking number and a description of the package (IE headphones). You are also asked for the package destination. It’s that simple! This app has a really cool feature which allows you to track the app via a map mode which puts the location into perspective.

Parcelle tracks your packages all over the world and notifies you about any changes in their status. This app supports over 100 postal services.Parcelle can help you track: – local and international packages in 80 countries, including USA, Europe, CIS and China – EMS packages in 27 countries, including Europe, CIS and China – DHL, UPS, FedEx and i-Parcel packagesParcelle will always tell you where your package is. – PlayStore Description

I really love how fluid and accurate this app works. I compared my package tracking on this app to that of UPS and it was spot on and the included notification system was equally accurate. This app works in 80 countries with big name parcel companies such as UPS and FedEx among others. You also have an option to view your parcel history even after its has been delivered.

The only thing I did not like about the app was that it was not released sooner. I would recommend this app if you own a business with various shipping needs or someone like me who buy lots of online stuff. Parcelle is the perfect app for all your tracking needs. Parcelle s available for Android devices 2.2 and higher.

WorldPenScan BT [Android App and Hardware Review]

App Name: WorldPenScan BT

Developer: Penpower

Cost: App (free) / hardware ($199 USD)

Market: Google Play

Review:

From the company:  With WorldPenScan BT, you can scan information on any printed text including books, newspapers, flyers, and magazines wirelessly and easily get them translated into any foreign language with mobile devices or PC. No need to type anymore. You scan documents anytime, translate and share information anywhere. All data can be transferred into Win/ Mac or Android phones/ tablets with Bluetooth. It recognizes bar codes, OCR-A, OCR-B and MICR to apply in banks, libraries and logistics, etc.

For Android phone/ tablet users,
WorldPenScan BT can recognize more than 20 languages used most often such as English, French, German, Italian, Spanish, Traditional Chinese, Simplified Chinese, Japanese and Korean, etc.

WorldPenScan BT, wireless portable pen scanner and translator is a handy and very useful tool for businesses and individuals. I recently received one of these pen scanner to try out and I must say I was impressed. The app is free on the market but you will need to purchase the hardware separately and it is not inexpensive.

When you get the pen scanner, it comes with a USB cable and the program and drivers needed to install it on your PC or Mac. With this program you can scan directly to your computer (via the USB cable) or scan to your Android device. Since this is an mobile related website, that is the only aspect of the WorldPenScan that we evaluated.

When using the pen scanner with your Android device it connects via Bluetooth.  Setup is very simple and takes no time. There are instructions in the box that tell you how to connect via Bluetooth.  Just as a side note, there are a number of other products Penpower has and they look interesting also.

Once the pen is connected via Bluetooth and you have installed the app, you are ready to go.  To begin you will need to turn the app on, make sure it “sees’ the pen. To scan the text, simply hold the pen down over the text, making sure the scan button is depressed and touching the page. Once in place, a white light from the pen will appear. To scan, move the pen over the text. When you are done, the text will appear in the text box in the app.

The pen itself is very light and easy to hold. Ok now that we have looked at the pen itself, what about the Android app? The app itself has some nice options. You can create bookmarks with your scanned items, view your scan history, and even do voice recording.

The app can be setup to account if you are right or left handed! The app has dictionaries you can download and the ability to translate text to various languages, thus the term worldpenscan.  Finally you can easy share the items you scan.

To wrap it up. WorldPenScan BT from Penpower is an easy to use and lightweight scanning tool that makes it easy to scan portions a  document. I think it would be hard to scan a full document with it but if you are steady you probably could. I see this being a handy tool for businesses that travel and need to quickly scan information in and either save or email to another.  Like most scanning products I have tried it is not perfect but I found it easy to fix the words the scanner did not understand.  Due to the price point, I am not sure how quickly businesses will jump on it but I do see it uses.

Top Android Apps for Law Students

If you are a law student then you will likely spend a lot of your time knee deep in law books and probably see lists of names and dates whenever you close your eyes. It’s heavy going learning the law, and anything you can do to make it more fun and more interesting, or to give you more convenient ways to learn about it, is going to be highly useful. Here we will look at some of the best apps for law students on Android that can help you to learn the law and to even make it in some cases… fun…?

Dumb Laws

There are countless different apps on the market that list unusual, dumb and funny laws which include laws against things like raising alligators in your home or herding more than 3,000 sheep down Hollywood Blvd. While they all will make you smile (and remind you just how bizarre and complicated your chosen subject is) some of the best include ‘1,200 Dumb Laws US’, ‘Strange Laws’ and ‘Weird Laws International’.

Law Buddy

Law buddy is a touch and go app that’s great in theory but maybe not so hot in execution. The idea is that you enter your location (by selecting it on the inbuilt map) and then your question, and can then find the laws pertaining to that subject in your area. Wondering whether you can talk on the phone in a particular state? Then this can be quite handy.

The problem with Law Buddy is that all it really does is link you straight to Wikipedia – which you don’t technically need an app for. Furthermore the fact that Wikipedia can be edited by anyone means that it’s not really a reliable source for writing your essays – though it might be useful for telling your friends laws when they ask you (as will happen if you’re a law student). Unfortunately it also force closes for a lot of people, so give it a try but keep your expectations nice and low and you shouldn’t be disappointed.

Penal Code Apps

Somewhat more reliable (in general – read the reviews) are the penal law apps which allow you to access the entire penal law in an easy to search format on your phone. Many of the comments suggest that they are indeed useful for law students who want quick and reliable access to the law, and you can find them for several different states and even other countries. But on the down side they are also generally rather pricey, and particularly bearing in mind that you can get all the same information for free from your college library.

Vehicle Code Apps

You can also find several different apps to provide you with details on the vehicle codes of New York, California and elsewhere. Again they’re pricey but handy for being easy to access, but it would be nice to see a few more apps on marriage law, custody, immigration etc.

DroidLaw

DroidLaw seems to be the best option for law reference on your Android, and reviews suggest that the creator offers good customer support and lots of updates. You can get DroidLaw versions of many of the above vehicle code and penal code apps, or even the ‘Legal Dictionary’ which is completely free. If you are a student looking for useful apps in the playstore, the searching ‘DroidLaw’ is a good place to start.

About the Author: Brian loves his smartphones; he has a Samsung Android and a cool iPhone. These apps can come handy for students whether they are gearing upto become criminal lawyers or family lawyers.
