When I was house hunting over 20 years ago, there was no Internet, nor smartphones, so we had to use the newspaper. Today it is a totally different story. In this review, I am taking a quick look at a new, free app available for both Android and iOS users called Home On App.

The app is new and does not seem to have a ton of listings yet, but shows potential. Before I go any further, I need to mention two key pieces of information.

  1. Within the app there is not a lot of information regarding the developer. When I wrote this review the developer’s website was non-existent so I could not get any additional information.
  2. Also all monetary values are listed in the British Pound and there is no way to change (that I could see). Also all the current listings are in the UK. I am in the US, so this does not help me.

(I thought it was important to let you know this.)

Overall the app is pretty straight forward and easy to use. When you first start, you will need to setup an account.  The app is divided into three main sections: List Services, List Properties, Nearby Properties.

List Services: If you provides services such as gas, construction ,plumbing, electrician, you can setup a brief contact listing with your phone number, description, and prices.

List Properties: The second section is where you can list a property you manage. So if you have a property such as an apartment, commercial building, home, linked house semi-detached house, you can setup a brief listing of it. The app will determine your location, or you can add it in manually. Yes you can add a photo or two, the price, etc.

Nearby Properties: In this section you can search what is currently listed, and narrow it down by budget, square footage, and how wide of a radius from where you are located you want to search.

The app has a nicely setup menu, where you can easily access any of these items. Within the settings of the app, you can also setup notifications and invite friends to join/use the app. You can favorite items for easy access later.

As I mentioned before, this app is not bad. It is new and has potential. I like how it is setup, the different sections it provides, and does not have a lot of moving parts. This can be a useful tool for those looking for a new place to live; we will need to see if it is only for the UK or will be used globally.
