Hijinks aren’t appealing and not worth being the focus of a game, but these games managed to add a little bit of intelligent design to otherwise juvenile acts. There are five games on this list.

Die in 100 Ways

This game features a series of scenarios where the player must choose an option or quickly react to directions to avoid unfortunate outcomes that usually lead to the death of the characters. For example, if you don’t connect a wire, a kid will get electrocuted playing with Christmas lights. If you don’t select the right glass of wine, a lady will drink a poisoned cup and die. This game flows well from one scenario to another. You have three lives before the game ends.

Dumb Ways to Die

Speeding trains are dangerous. To avoid them, you have to do exactly what the screen tells you to do. Some scenarios require you to tilt the phone, others require you to tap the screen repeatedly. For drawing prompts, if you don’t trace the lines exactly, you’ll die. You only have three lives. After each success or failure, dancing jelly beans celebrate.

Dumb Ways to Die 2

The second version of Dumb Ways to Die has several theme-based scenarios. For example, Drown Town contains scenarios that are water-based. Follow the directions on screen to avoid dying. You might drown, fall and hit your head on a slippery deck, or get eaten by sharks. Drown Town is just one location on a map. There’s Dumb Dome, Adrenaland, Freezerville, and several more.

Goat Simulator Free

Goat Simulator has a well-designed introduction. It features a fly-in over the landscape at just the right angle to deliver outstanding depth perspective, with the horizon in the background. It also has a well-designed tutorial that highlights all the on-screen tools effectively. The gameplay is great as well. Roam through the countryside and smash into sheds, just like a real runaway-goat would. This goat can even steal a jeep and drive it through the farm.

Scribble Scram

This game has a background and game elements drawn by a child. It looks like a pastel doodle featuring stick figures and poorly drawn animals, vehicles, and environment. This theme works though for the gameplay. All you have to do is draw a line so that the moving car continues forward. Draw the line over obstacles to avoid crashing.

The Best Game Is…

Dumb Ways to Die. The original is better than the sequel. Go through the scenes without making a mistake. It flows well, and the dancing jelly beans will keep you playing.
