As you know, I really enjoy playing board games on my mobile device. I am always on the look out for new board games coming to digital format or going on sale. Today I am looking at two relatively new games: Le Havre Inland Port and Steam: Rails to Riches. Both are euro style games that that are available for Android and iOS devices. I tested out the Android versions.

Le Havre Inland Port (Android, iOS)

Le Havre Inland Port is an excellent port of the board game with the same name. If you are not familiar with game Le Havre (itself) is a board game where you try to put together the most profitable port. The game is available for iOS devices and does have a bit of a learning curve to it. Now the Inland Port is a two player version of that main game and is not as “complex”.

In this game, you need to purchase different buildings and then use those buildings to get more resources.  The game is broken down into 12 days with 4 stages per day.  To win, you need to get the most victory points –which are determined by the buildings you own, the resources, and cash you have.

You do not need to have any previous experience with the game but it will you a few tries to get the basics down. The graphics are excellent, game play smooth, and the there is local and online multi-player options. This is a very well done game and fun to play.

Steam: Rails to Riches (Android, iOS)

Steam: Rails to Riches is a relatively new board game to come to the digital platform.  As with Le Havre Inland Port, this game will take probably a few tries before you get good at it.  Right now the base game is available but more maps and multi-player options should be appearing in 2016.

In this game you need to purchase tracks and then build railways between the cities.  Once the track is placed then you will need to move goods from one city to another. The game is broken up into 10 rounds and with numerous stages in each. In the stages, you will take out a loan, purchase tracks, lay the tracks, play cards, and then move goods.

It is somewhat hard to describe but when you go through the tutorial, it should make more sense. I found this video online, which shows the tutorial. Let me know if it helps.

To win the game,  you will need to have the most victory points after the final round.  This is pretty much determined by how many goods you are able to transport during the game. This is a very simple view but it gives you a basic idea.  This game will take a little while to play but the graphics are excellent and game play is smooth.

I have no problem recommending both of these games. Yes, these cost more than $0.99 but I think they are a great investment and games that can be played over and over, either alone or with a friend.
