If you are looking for a few recommendations for running games, then you’ve come to the right place. The following list contains five worthwhile running games for smartphones. You’ll find fast-paced running games, slow games with obstacle courses, and games that are based on popular video game characters.

Temple Run 2

Run away from a monstrous beast while making sharp 90 degree turns, jumping over dangerous gaps, and sliding down ropes over wide expanses. If you don’t time it just right, you’ll plunge to your death. This game utilized the tilt motion function of the smartphone to lean to one side or another. It’s a smart way to collect coins while escaping from the monster. For a more in-depth review of the game, click see our previous review.

Sonic Dash

Sonic, the popular Sega video game character, has made his way to the smartphone. Run, roll, and jump your way through the courses in Sonic Dash. There are coins to collect and barriers to crash through. Watch out for crabs and the flying eggman as they lay waiting to block your path and attack you. The game is really fast, and at times is a blur.

Lara Croft: Relic Run

This game features another popular video game character – Lara Croft. Side-step, jump, and slide your way through the jungle. It is similar to Temple Run 2, but it isn’t paced as well. The result is hitting obstacles instead of avoiding them. Parkour-style moves make up for this. So does the graphics and the opening story.

Free Run – It’s New York

Run through the streets of New York in this game. Back alleys, parking lots, and city streets are some of the places you will see. Use the tilt motion function of the smartphone to lean to the left or right. This will help you avoid crates, cars, and trash cans. You can also jump over and slide under obstacles by swiping the screen up or down.

Amazing Run 3D

Take part in an obstacle course filled with rotating, q-tip shaped pylons, swinging hammers, and bouncing trampolines. It’s like a TV game show where the players try to finish the course faster than their competition. It is addictive and despite the annoying thumbs in the tutorial, this game is well-designed. But it’s hard to win. The touchscreen is really responsive so use it to your advantage. Drag your thumb slowly in the direction you’d like to move. Remember to back up before an obstacle by moving your thumb to the left. Swipe the screen up to jump, and swipe down and hold the screen to duck.

Recommendation:

The best game in this list is Lara Croft: Relic Run. It has the best graphics, cool advanced running moves (wall run and parkour leap), and easy-to-play levels. Plus, it has a well-written story to go with the action.
