If you want a  great game that you can play almost anywhere for free, then Cards and Castles is for you. Cards and Castles from Bit Mass is a very well done digital CCG (collectible card game) and grid-based strategy game. The game is available for Android, iOS devices, and your PC via Steam.

I have been playing this game for a while now and I really cannot find anything bad with it. The developers are very commited to the game, which is evident from the huge number of updates it receives. They are quick to get rid of bugs and they listen to their players. Cards and Castles have undergone a number of huge updates, with the most recent being it coming to Steam.

Enough already – how do you play? You mission in each game, is to destroy the enemy castle. During your turn, you place your cards (units) on the board and then move/attack your enemy. When you are finished with all possible moves, it is your enemy’s turn. This  goes until your or his castle (30 health points) is destroyed.  Check out the video below for some game play and screenshots.

The game comes with a great selection of different modes. Right now you can:

  • Play against the AI via Quests and Scenarios
  • Play against friends online
  • Play against others via Draft
  • Play against others via Asynchronous
  • Play against others via Multiplayer

The key to this game, as well as any card collectible game, is building your deck. The better deck you have, the better you will play (or so they say).

In Cards and Castles, there are 5 different races or classes you can play:

  • Vikings
  • Crusaders
  • Pirates
  • Warlocks
  • Ninjas

Each class has its own strengths and unique cards (units).  When you first start, you will get a starter deck. As you progress through the beginning missions, you will earn more cards. When you play, you will also earn Card Points and Silver Points, which in turn can be used to purchase more cards in the store. You are also purchase Silver Points with real cash too!

In the store, they have daily specials and sales, and a variety of different bundles and kits you can get to help build the perfect deck. The game allows you to create an unlimited number of decks, so you can mix and match the cards you have.  I found you can do a lot with the cards you earn but I would recommend saving some of your coin to purchase additional ones. (Kudos to Bit Mass because they really do not pressure you in the game to buy Silver or additional cards).

That is the basics of the game but I recommend you download it and give it a try. The game is easy to play and the rules are not hard. The game has a very active and friendly online community and the developer is committed to making Cards and Castles a great game.  I cannot say enough great things about this game- it is one that will be on my phone for a long time.
