Frontline: Road to Moscow is another quality WWII strategy game from Slitherine Games. If you have played and enjoy Panzer Corps, another new game this year, then Frontline: Road to Moscow will be a “breeze”.

The game is currenly only available for the iPad and comes with 30 battle scenarios, all of which are inspired by historical missions and true-to-life war situations. In the game you play the Germans on the eastern front during WWII. You will be able to participate in land, naval and aerial combat. For those who want more game play, there is a Russian add on you can purchase which comes with 9 scenarios to play.

For each scenario you play, there will be additional objectives you can go for. The game comes with over 100 different units, each with their own strengths and weaknesses, plus they can gain experience as you play.

The game allows you to set the difficulty and you can even reset your campaign if you want to start all over. You can replay any scenario you have already finished if you want to try for some of the objectives you did not get before.

The game is very straight forward to play- tap on a unit and it will show you where it can move to and/or attack. When you are ready to attack you will see the potential damage you will inflict and get in return. When all of your units have been used, then it is the opponent’s turn. You keep doing this until you are destroyed or the main objective is accomplished.

The gameplay and graphics are great. Each of the units has a more 3D look to them them and your perspective is more at an angle then directly overhead. You can easily pinch to zoom and swipe around the screen to see the units. At the bottom of the screen is a tap with your money- which can be used to purchase additional units or repair/resupply your current ones. To win you will need to use your resources wisely. The game also gives you some general information on units to help you out.

Frontline: Road to Moscow is a little “lighter” than some of their other awesome iOS WWII strategy games, but it is just as fun. I enjoyed the game and was able to jump right into it. The game allows you to control your units and determine where they go; it does not have some of the intricate details the other games have.

I definitely have no problem recommend this game to everyone who enjoy turn-based strategy games.
