I have played a good number of building games and really have not gotten into them. Why? I cannot say that there is one reason but in general they simply have not held my attention. I guess I need some structure or purpose in my building. Well I think I have found a building game which is going to keep my attention: TownCraft from Flat Earth Games. So what is TownCraft? This is from the developer’s website: TownCraft is an addictive, relaxing, and non-violent crafting and city-building game, set in medieval times; players are alone in the wilderness and must start a new town to be the toast of the kingdoms. That sums it up pretty well. The game begins with you in the middle of the forest with NOTHING. So what is TownCraft? This is from the developer’s website:

The game comes with a nice tutorial you can play as much as you want to get the basics down. Fans of the game have also created a wiki for it too. So why has TownCraft gotten my attention. A few reasons:

  1. There is an ultimate goal in the game-build the best town possible from nothing.
  2. The game has a neat crafting system and you need to figure out what and how to make stuff.
  3. The game comes with three locations to play and four challenge games. Every time you play a game the world is different
  4. It is a casual game so you can play at your own pace.

I know that I have only scratched the surface in the game but if I waited until I had “finished” the game, this review would never get done. 🙂

Overall the  graphics and interface are very nicely done; playing it on my iPad mini is a joy. The game recently came out for the iPhone  and you can get it for the Mac too. You can save multiple games which is always something I appreciate.

Not sure what else you to tell you about the game. If you enjoy a game you can play a little bit each day or for hours at a time, then TownCraft is something to try. As I said the game challenges you to build a town but there is no set blueprint. It is up to you how the town grows. TownCraft is a neat game and one I know will be on my iPad for some time to come. Definitely worth the $5 USD investment.
