When I first downloaded Battle Academy from Slitherine, I was not sure what to expect. I had seen the screenshots and read some reviews but it isn’t until you get into the game can you really appreciate it. Make sure to check out the video below to get some more specifics. The game is packed with a ton of game options. First you can play against the AI or multi-player online. You can save multiple games, vary the game speed, vary the game difficulty, to name a few. The game comes links to its online forums which are quite active and helpful, and its online help area. The game has 10 campaigns, 4 of which are only available via in app purchases. If that is not enough, you can even download user created campaign, all for free. Yes the game is about $20 USD but there is a huge amount of content and game play.  Some of the campaigns you can do are: Battle for Normandy, Battle of the Bulge, and Blitzkrieg France.

With the campaigns, you can select  your units so you can really customize the battle.  You can control British, US, Polish, and Canadian forces or take control of Italian and German forces in multiplayer games. You can use 100 different units. and deal with such things as ambushes, line of sight, artillery barrages, airstrikes, scouts, morale, APCs, flame throwers, heavy bombers, snipers and suppression fire.

Slitherine recently came out with Battle Academy Lite– so you can try the game for free and see if you like it.

When you first start the game, I recommend you go through the tutorial. The game is very gentle and walks you through what you need to know. As I was playing I got so involved I forget it was a turn based game. I kept wanting to do more moves but then realized I had to let the computer take its turn. Pinch to zoom works great and is something you will need to remember to do.

I had a little bit of trouble at first, getting used to the controls but after the tutorial I was ready to go. The graphics and cartoon like characters make the game a joy to play. As I mentioned above, you really can just let yourself go and get so involved in the game. If you are a history buff and enjoy war time strategy games, then Battle Academy should be on your iPad.
