A new game is out from G5 Games, Build It! Miami Beach Resort. I got a chance to preview it and it is pretty fun. Here is the official description:

Ready to build your own coastal resort city? Start small in the early 1920s with simple bungalows and develop it over time into a cosmopolitan boomtown! During the course of sixty years, you will get to construct glittering hotels, fabulous restaurants and chic boutiques, but you’ll also need to manage repairs, deliveries, remodeling and much more. Design everything you can imagine on a big scrollable map.

Features:

  • 60 levels across six decades
  • 32 achievements to earn
  • 18 buildings to construct
  • Design on a big, scrollable game field
  • Multiple player profiles

Now on to my review. If you enjoy building games, time management, and can multi-task, this new game from G5 should be on your play list.

It is 1919 and Claire gets fired from her dead-end job. Well her Uncle Pete dies and leaves her some beachfront property in South Miami (why couldn’t we all be that lucky?) Your job is help her build up the resort and make money!

Each level of the game is one calendar year, and the tutorial lasts for 3 years or levels. Each year you have a series of tasks you need to complete; if you can complete them by July 1, you get expert status. You can redo any year you want to get a better score. Trying to complete your tasks by July 1 is hard but doable. This adds a nice time management component to the game.

The map you get to work on is scrollable, so you can pinch to zoom and move around to see the lay of the land. I played the game on my iTouch but I think it would work better on a larger screen. The on screen menu at first seem a bit busy but once you understand what each section does, it actually works well. There is a help section you can refer to at any time if you need some guidance.

There is a lot going on in the game; it definitely is a game that you need to concentrate on to succeed! This is what I really enjoy about the Build It! Miami Beach Resort-it keeps you engaged. You will not fall asleep playing this game.  In addition to building, you have to keep an eye on the balance between lodging and recreation- remember you are trying to get more tourists to make more money.

I have not completed the game yet but I have Claire’s resort humming along and I cannot wait to see how the resort grows over the next 50+ years.
