For any smartphone to be able to coordinate and synchronize multiple phone functions, it must have some sort of operating system to perform these tasks. In the world of smartphones, there are different operating systems that provide different benefits for users of those mobile devices. Currently, the most popular smartphones are those that run on the Android operating system designed by Google. If someone is purchasing a new handset today, there is a greater chance that it will use the Android operating system; the mobile phone reviews for Android devices have been stellar, and it’s easy to see how their popularity has paid off.

Approximately over 50% of these phones have the Android operating system. The operating system in second place is the iPhone Operating System with almost a 30% share. Of course, this could change given new releases by Apple. While some Android handsets can be rather pricey, many predict they their prices should become more reasonable in the future. As Android phones become available for pay as you go purchase, this will help reduce the price of these phones. This measure will no doubt further drive up usage of Android phones. With future implications looming, Apple could be facing some stiff competition. In fact, Apple is investigating creation of a phone running their operating system that could be less costly, driving up usage of their operating system.

As a whole, the smartphone market is growing in leaps and bounds. More consumers today are opting for these devices that feature a great deal of capabilities. Some analysts have determined smartphones account for well over half of all handsets that are sold. Within the group of smartphones, Android also remains tops as the operating platform. Following behind them are Apple and BlackBerry. With the fast approaching holiday shopping season on our doorsteps, that could influence these findings to change. Many aren’t sure how popular the iPhone will be given a great deal of disappointment in the fact that a 5th version was not released by Apple
